Experimental Infrastructure for Autonomous Systems
From architecture to a validated autonomous system.
Experimental infrastructure for taking autonomous systems beyond simulation:
physical integration, communications, sensors, heterogeneous platforms and reproducible validation
before operational deployment.
ResearchAlgorithms, autonomy, perception and cooperation
IntegrationHardware, software, sensors and communications
ValidationGround truth, MIL/SIL/HIL, metrics and reproducibility
AccelerationReduce risk before real-world deployment
The natural next step after simulation.
Once the simulation cycle has matured —MIL, SIL, HIL, hardware, software and architecture—
the next challenge is to understand how the system behaves under controlled physical conditions.
The Tracking Lab provides that intermediate experimental environment: real communications, physical sensors,
autonomous platforms, system interaction, ground truth and structured scenarios to validate algorithms,
architectures and capabilities before progressing to operational deployment.
It does not replace simulation: it extends it.
It is the environment where a development that already works in MIL/SIL/HIL begins to face
real communications, real sensors, real hardware, latency, interference, interaction between
platforms and measurable physical conditions, without yet taking on the cost and risk of an operational campaign.

A physical environment designed for experimentation.
An instrumented, configurable arena where the system is no longer only a model:
hardware, sensors, communications, latency, platform interaction,
physical constraints and reference measurements all become part of the experiment.
Provisional image of the infrastructure. For the final public version, a dedicated hero photograph should be produced:
a clear space, the Vicon system visibly integrated into the arena, one or two autonomous platforms in operation, and the control station in the background.

What do you need to solve?
The entry point depends on who comes to us. The infrastructure is organised around the technological problem.
Company / start-up
“I need to reduce risk before moving into the real world.”
Validate an architecture or subsystem.
Compare alternatives using objective metrics.
Accelerate a demonstrator or product.
Prepare an outdoor test campaign with greater maturity.
Researcher / university
“I need an infrastructure in which to demonstrate my hypothesis.”
Design reproducible experiments.
Obtain ground truth and datasets.
Validate algorithms on real hardware.
Develop publications and joint proposals.
Consortium / funding call
“We need experimental capability within the project.”
Integration and V&V work packages.
Demonstrators and pre-operational validation.
University–industry knowledge transfer.
Infrastructure for measurable milestones and outcomes.
Capability that turns R&D into verifiable results.
A competitive proposal needs more than a strong idea: it needs to show how the technology will be integrated,
how it will be measured, and how it will progress towards a transferable outcome.
For innovation projects
Technology validation
Define scenarios, metrics and evidence to demonstrate that a technology works beyond a purely simulated environment.
Outcome: traceable experimental evidence.
For university–industry collaboration
Acceleration and transfer
Integrate academic knowledge with hardware, constraints and industrial objectives from an early stage.
Outcome: a shorter path from research to application.
For multidisciplinary consortia
Shared infrastructure
Provide a common environment in which algorithms, communications, platforms and perception can be assessed together.
Outcome: measurable integration between partners.
Fit with R&D and innovation programmes: the infrastructure is designed around the very elements that often determine
whether research can progress towards impact: collaboration, advanced technologies, demonstration,
tangible outcomes, knowledge transfer and technological risk reduction.
The value does not lie in simply having an arena. It lies in being able to measure, repeat, compare and validate
before taking on the cost and risk of the real world.
Infrastructure designed to grow with the project
The modular approach allows new platforms, sensors, architectures, networks and scenarios to be incorporated
without redesigning the laboratory from scratch.

Media & institutional visibility
The laboratory is already part of a wider conversation on autonomy, technology and transfer.
Public coverage of the UPV Campus d'Alcoi has begun to place the Tracking Lab within a broader context:
autonomous systems, dual-use technology, university–industry collaboration and regional innovation.

comunicaciones reales, sensores reales, hardware real, latencias, interferencias, interacción
entre plataformas y condiciones físicas medibles sin asumir todavía el coste y el riesgo de una campaña operacional.
